Airport Environmental Interactions Challenge:

First Place - The Computer Science Department at Binghamton University - State University of New York captured first place for its design titled, “Pervious Concrete-based Airport Fuel Spill Control System.” Professor William Ziegler advised the student team. Full Design

Second Place - The Civil Engineering Department at the University of Missouri won second place for its design titled, “Contaminated Stormwater Runoff Management.” The team was advised by Professor Carlos Sun. Full Design

Third Place - Another team from the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Missouri advised by Professor Carlos Sun took third place for its design titled, “Evaluation of Airfield Lighting Efficiency at Columbia Regional Airport.”

First Place - A team from the Human Factors and Systems Department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Daytona Beach, won first place for its design titled, “Tactile Stimulation System.” Professor Kelly Neville was their advisor.

Second Place - A team from the Human Factors and Systems Department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Daytona Beach advised by Professor Kelly Neville garnered second place for their design titled, “Runway Incursion Prevention Lighting System (RIPLS).”

Third Place - A team from the Human Factors and Systems Department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Daytona Beach, tied for third place for its design titled, “eyePort.” Professor Kelly Neville advised the team.

Third Place - A third place tie was awarded to the University of Missouri in the Runway Safety/Runway Incursions challenge for its submission titled “Integration of Engineered Material Arresting System and End-Around Taxiways.” The team was advised by Professor Carlos Sun.

First Place - A team from the Computer Science Department at the University of Southern California advised by Professor David Wilczynski captured first place with its design submission titled, “USC Safety Management System.”

Second Place - A team from the Mechanical and Industrial Systems Engineering Department at the University of Rhode Island won second place for its design titled “Aviation Operations Monitoring System.” Dr. Barham Nassersharif served as the team advisor.
