Airport Operations And Maintenance Challenge:

First Place - A team from the Computer Science Department at Binghamton University - State University of New York advised by Professor William Ziegler won first place for its submission titled, “Radiant Heating of Airport Aprons.”

Second Place - A team from the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign captured second place for its design titled, “In-place Hot Mix Asphalt Density Estimation Using Ground Penetrating Radar for Airport Pavement Quality Control and Assurance Activities”. Dr. Imad Al-Qadi and Dr. Samer Lahouar were the advisors.

Runway Safety/Runway Incursions/Runway Excursions Challenge:

First Place - A team from the Computer Science Department at the University of Southern California advised by Dr. Michael Crowley won the first place award for designing a Controller Intent Monitoring Interface (CIMI) that would ensure that all high-speed operations conducted on runways are executed in a safe manner that is consistent with FAA regulations.

Third Place - A team from the Department of Aviation and Technology at San Jose State University won third place for their design titled, “The Enthalpy Wheel.” Dr. Glynn Falcon served as their Advisor.

First Place - A team from the Department of Aviation at The Ohio State University garnered first place for its submission on “Developing an integrated web-based tool to enhance Safety Management System (SMS) planning and management for airports.” Dr. Seth Young was the Advisor.
