Second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP 2) Publications
Reports and briefs describe the findings of individual research projects or provide updates on projects sponsored by TRB's second Strategic Highway Research Program.
|
Research Reports explore the conduct of research in a specific project and present the findings of the research team. All SHRP 2 research reports are available on the Internet and about half were printed and are also available from the TRB Bookstore.
Safety Reports |
The Safety area is conducting the largest ever naturalistic driving study to better understand the interaction among various factors involved in highway crashes—driver, vehicle, and infrastructure—so that better safety countermeasures can be developed and applied to save lives. |
Renewal Reports |
The Renewal area is developing technologies and institutional solutions to support systematic rehabilitation of highway infrastructure in a way that is rapid, presents minimal disruption to users, and results in long-lasting facilities. |
Reliability Reports |
The Reliability area is developing basic analytical techniques, design procedures, and institutional approaches to address the events—such as crashes, work zones, special events, and inclement weather—that result in the unpredictable congestion that makes travel times unreliable. |
Capacity Reports |
The Capacity area is developing a web-based tool to provide more accurate data and collaborative decision-making in the development of new highway capacity in order to expedite the provision of that capacity while simultaneously addressing economic, community, and environmental objectives associated with new construction. |

|
Project Briefs typically 4-8 pages, summarize the findings of research conducted in a specific project. Project Briefs may be published, in hard copy as needed and on the SHRP 2 website, before the full report is available. |
|
Program Briefs provide a quick overview of progress in the entire SHRP 2 program and are prepared as needed for meetings and as requested by sponsors. They are posted on the SHRP 2 website. |
|
Letter Reports are produced periodically by National Research Council advisory committees. |
|
Annual Reports provide updates on progress make and milestones met by SHRP 2 for that year. |
