As part of the SHRP2 Tuesdays Webinar Series, TRB conducted a webinar on August 19, 2014 that explores SHRP2 project
C01 and associated projects relating to the development of the
Framework for Collaborative Decision-Making on Additions to Highway Capacity. This research is derived learned from 23 case studies of highway capacity enhancements and finds that effective, multi-stakeholder collaboration is a common success theme. The research organized decision points in Long Range Planning, Corridor Planning, Programming, and Environmental Review into a Decision Guide for planning that became the organizing structure for a web-based resource now known as PlanWorks, formerly TCAPP. The research contributes to the development and communication of a framework to ensure projects move ahead without delays and avoid decisions that will be deferred or revisited.

This webinar will concentrate on the principles that grew out of the SHRP 2 research, including insights into successful collaboration, stakeholder involvement, and expediting project planning and environmental review. The webinar will feature a presentation by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (DOT) on their application of these principles. Additionally, representatives from the Federal Highway Administration and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials will discuss their plans for long-term availability of the research results. This webinar is intended for a diverse audience of academia, public sector practitioners, and private industry interested in the science of transportation planning and group-level analysis to accommodate highway capacity additions.
There is no fee to attend this webinar and other webinars in the SHRP 2 Series; however, participants must register in advance. A certificate for 2 Professional Development Hours (PDH) will be provided to attendees who register and attend the webinar as an individual. This webinar has also been approved by the American Institute of Certified Planners for 2 Certification Maintenance Credits.
