As part of the SHRP2 Tuesdays Webinar Series, TRB conducted a webinar on September 17, 2013, from 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. ET that explored the project, Incorporating Reliability Performance Measures into the Transportation Planning and Programming Processes, which developed a
guide, a
technical reference to the guide, and a
final report. View the
recorded webinar.
Learning Objectives:
This webinar included information about how agencies can use reliability performance measurement to:
- Learn how to use reliability performance measurement to understand and communicate reliability
- Display emerging travel time reliability analysis tools to make program and project investment choices that address the reliability of the system
- Learn how to incorporate reliability into existing analysis tools
- Understand how the project guide may help users measure and track reliability performance, incorporate reliability into policy statements, evaluate reliability needs or deficiencies, and use reliability performance measures to make investment decisions
In addition, the webinar reviewed the project guide, which is organized around four key steps for incorporating reliability into the planning and programming process:
- Measuring and tracking reliability performance
- Incorporating reliability in policy statements
- Evaluating reliability needs and deficiencies
- Using reliability performance measurement to inform investment decisions
The intended audience for this webinar is federal, state, and local agencies involved in project, planning, operation prioritization, and investment decision making, specifically state departments of transportation (DOTs) and metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs). Within DOTs and MPOs, this webinar would be useful to policy, planning, and operations personnel; metropolitan planners; and traffic engineers who have backgrounds in public policy, transportation planning, transportation operations, or transportation maintenance.
