Recent Advances in Hazardous Materials Transportation Research: An International Exchange
TRB State of the Art Report 3: Recent Advances in Hazardous Materials Transportation Research: An International Exchange is the proceedings from a 3-day international conference for the exchange of ideas and information about the state of the art in research and technology applications to improve safety in hazardous materials transportation was held in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, on November 10-13, 1985.
An international call for papers resulted in the final selection of the 31 papers presented in this report. They were presented in nine conference sessions covering design and use of vehicles and packages; risk assessment; regional problems and solutions; research and analysis for planning and program development; strategic planning; information systems and computer-aided management; special hazard situations (tunnels, oceans, and pipelines); public concerns about hazardous materials transportation; and advances in hazardous waste transportation.
Roundtable discussions based on two individual papers comprised two sessions. The first was based on David J. Friend's paper Public Concerns and Hazardous Materials Transportation Safety: Closing the Gap; the second was based on John A. Granito's paper Strategic Planning for Hazardous Materials Transportation Safety.
