Magnetic Tomography – Assessing Tie Bar and Dowel Bar Placement Accuracy
The Kansas Department of Transportation has released a report that describes the development of a field instrument capable of assessing the accuracy of steel in Portland cement concrete pavement (PCCP). Correct placement of reinforcing steel in PCCP is critical for long-lasting performance of highways; however, once immersed in PCCP, steel placement is difficult to measure. If steel bars are mislocated, they may require costly remedial action.
