TRB Webinar: Traffic Control Devices and Measures for Deterring Wrong-Way Movements
TRB conducted a webinar on Thursday, November 15, 2018, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM ET that featured research from the
National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP)’s
Research Report 881: Traffic Control Devices and Measures for Deterring Wrong-Way Movements.
This webinar provided an overview of the research regarding traffic control devices that may be used to deter wrong-way movements. The presenter discussed her research on inconsistences in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) regarding wrong-way movement signing and markings at non-signalized divided highway crossings. The presenter also described the nature of wrong-way crashes on divided highways. She identified the effects of median width and various traffic control devices upon wrong-way crashes on high-speed highways and offer suggestions for future research
