Roadways outside airport terminals can be tricky to navigate because of a high percentage of motorists unfamiliar with the airport and the many professional drivers circulating. Operators are addressing the growing passenger volume, such as offering multi-level curbsides at Richmond International Airport, expanded curbside areas at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, and cell-phone waiting lots at Tampa International Airport.
ACRP Research Report 266: Airport Curbside and Terminal Area Roadway Operations: New Analysis and Strategies, Second Edition, was released this week by TRB's Airport Cooperative Research Program. It is an update to ACRP Research Report 40 and presents guidelines for estimating airport roadway requirements and capacities, recommended performance measures, valid and useful analytical methods, and innovative strategies to reduce traffic demands and mitigate congestion on terminal area and curbside roadway operations.
Take a look at all of TRB's research on aiport terminal operations.
