Evaluation of Non-Destructive Density Determination for QA/QC Acceptance Testing
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has released a report that determines the potential of low- to non-nuclear devices with little to no radioactive footprint. This report seeks to replace the nuclear density gauge (NDG) and roadway coring for asphalt and soils quality assurance operations in Louisiana. Using nuclear technology in NDGs requires extensive certifications and handling procedures, and the coring process can be destructive to freshly paved asphalt.
