TRB conducted a webinar on July 29, 2015, from 2:00pm to 3:30pm ET that shared experiences from transportation agencies that have successfully developed a methodology for Winter Severity Indices (WSI) and have used it to measure and report performance. Three speakers—two from two state departments of transportation and a representative from Canada—presented their respective agency's approach.
Assessing the performance of winter maintenance activities continues to be challenging for many state and local agencies. One of the primary challenges stems from the difficulty in comparing performance between events, regions, and seasons. Creating a winter severity index is one way to allow for a consistent approach to normalizing performance at an agency.
This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Winter Maintenance.
A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) was provided to attendees who register and attend the webinar as an individual.
Here are the slides from the presentation. Contact Reggie Gillum at RGillum@nas.edu for instructions on receiving a copy of the recorded webinar.
