TRB conducted a webinar on June 17, 2015, from 2:00pm to 3:30pm ET that explored the application of methods and toolsets from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO)
Highway Safety Manual to support design decisions. Webinar presenters provided updates on project outcomes, details on lessons learned from the application of these tools, and insight on state agency acceptance. This webinar was based on a session presented at the TRB 94th Annual Meeting, January 11-15, 2015, which was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Operational Effects of Geometrics and the TRB Standing Committee on Highway Safety Performance.
Geometric design decisions may have important implications on the road safety outcomes of road infrastructure projects. With increasing pressure for roadway designers to innovate and adapt to the application of current design practices, it is becoming increasingly important to arrive at defensible design decisions that consider road safety outcomes. With tools like the AASHTO Highway Safety Manual and the Interactive Highway Safety Design Model (IHSDM) may help roadway designers forecast the safety performance of many different aspects of roadway design alternatives.
This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Operational Effects of Geometrics.
A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) was provided to attendees who registered and attended the webinar as an individual. Contact Reggie Gillum at
