TRB Straight to Recording for All: E-Construction: Analyzing and Utilizing Nongraphical Construction Data for Smarter Project Delivery
TRB released a series of recordings in October 2019 that discuss the eConstruction initiative promoted by the U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The goal of eConstruction is to move management of a construction project from
a paper-based method to a broader use of
electronic-based communication. A significant
part of the initiative has been focused on the use
of graphical digital data for construction such as
3D models as well as virtual design and construction.
However, many state highway agencies report
that through e-construction initiative, they now
have a significant amount of non-graphical project
data which may be mined to effectively predict
and monitor the performance of projects, help
better plan future projects. Thus, the next
evolution of the e-construction is to enhance the
digital data collection, analysis, trend reporting,
forecasting and monitoring. These recordings focus on real world challenges and successes that transportation projects have experienced. Presenters discuss the efficiencies gained through the
effective use of non-graphical project data that
are harvested throughout the typical project
delivery process for smarter project delivery and
management.
