TRB Straight to Recording for All: Enhancing Geotechnical Asset Performance by Improving Moisture Measurement
TRB released a series of recordings in August 2019 that provide critical information regarding effective instruments and systems suitable for improving geotechnical asset management. Accurate and timely moisture content measurement of soils,
aggregates, and other geomaterials is becoming very important in
transportation applications such as landslide warning systems, rainfall-induced
slope failures, embankment settlement, and pavement
performance monitoring. In addition, accurate moisture content
measurements are critical to properly compact soils, aggregates, and
recycled materials. Traditional methods of measuring moisture are
expensive and time consuming. The presenters discuss new techniques, devices, and sensors that are available.
This series was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Engineering Behavior of Unsaturated Geomaterials. The videos are available on-demand at no cost.
The
slides are also available.
