TRB conducted a webinar on Monday, July 1, 2019, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM ET that examined the role polydrug use – the concurrent use of multiple drugs – may play in drug-impaired driving. Polydrug use includes illicit drug use, the intentional misuse of prescription drugs, or the concurrent use of multiple drugs for therapeutic use. More research into how different drug combinations affect driving is currently underway.
This webinar discussed recent findings on polydrug use in the general population and among drivers arrested for driving under the influence. The presenters discussed steps law enforcement is taking to identify polydrug use through the drug evaluation and classification program. They also described developments in roadside oral fluid testing that may allow for early detection of drug-impaired driving.
This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Alcohol, Other Drugs, and Transportation.
