TRB Straight to Recording for All: Benefits of Computational Modeling for Geotechnical Engineers
TRB released a series of recordings in October 2018 that examine the strengths of numerical modeling for geotechnical engineering analysis. The presenters discuss the benefits of applying numerical modeling compared to more traditional simplified approaches which may not correctly model soil-structure interaction, potential multiple interacting failure mechanisms, and Service Limit State analysis. This series of videos describe some of the typical geotechnical design problems encountered by state departments of transportation and the use of numerical modeling for three engineering problems: slope stability improvement, earth support soil interaction and stability evaluation, and column-supported embankment.
This series was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Geotechnical Instrumentation and Modeling. The videos are available on-demand at no cost.
