Basics of Asphalt Modeling Part 1 from The Academies on Vimeo.
TRB conducted a webinar on October 18, 2012 that is the first in a series that explores the basics about the mechanical behavior of asphalt concrete. The webinar addresses challenges in characterization asphalt binders and mixtures; elastic versus time-dependent or viscoelastic response of materials; linear viscoelasticity and superposition principles; and, typical types of tests and terminology. The webinar is designed for public and private sector practicing engineers and will serve as an educational short course on the topic of asphalt modeling. This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Characteristics of Asphalt Paving Mixtures to Meet Structural Requirements (AFK50).
This webinar, organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Characteristics of Asphalt Paving Mixtures to Meet Structural Requirements (AFK50), is the first part of a two part series. The second webinar, which will take place on December 11, 2012, will focus on applications of asphalt modeling to understand various asphalt distresses and design materials to prevent them.

- Eshan Dave, University of Minnesota Duluth
- Amit Bhasin, University of Texas at Austin
Moderated by: Richard Kim, North Carolina State University
