Maritime Risk Symposium
Hosted by Argonne National Laboratory, the 2022
Maritime Risk Symposium will be held November 15-17,2022 in Lemont, IL. TRB is pleased to cosponsor this event.
The Symposium brings together government, industry, and academic leaders to explore current and future risks associated with the maritime transportation system related to infrastructure, human factors, cyber vulnerabilities, and innovation (autonomous systems/automation) in an all-hazards context.
The theme in 2022 is “The Importance of Inland Systems to the Marine Transportation System (MTS).” The global MTS consists of numerous inland networks that connect the major transnational and inland ports. The United States has more than 25,000 miles of navigable waters, which can carry around 630 million tons of cargo annually. Issues to be considered include: addressing the risks and impacts on long-term resilience planning and climate adaptation, balancing maintenance and operational requirements against increasing complexity, engineering resilience into the inland MTS, supply chain challenges, and COVID-19 pandemic impacts on the human elements of the system.
