TRB Webinar: Enhancing Pavement Foundation Resilience through Moisture Measurement
Accurate and timely moisture measurement is important for properly compacting geomaterials during construction and to understand the environment below existing pavements. TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, September 17, 2020 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM Eastern exploring newer, potentially less expensive and time-consuming methods that continuously measure moisture in pavement foundations. Presenters discussed case studies that demonstrate cost savings from current moisture measurement techniques during project construction and seasonal pavement monitoring of existing roadways. They provided information about effective instruments and systems for improving transportation asset management.
This webinar is sponsored by the TRB Standing Committee on Mechanics and Drainage of Saturated and Unsaturated Geomaterials.
Webinar agenda and presenters
- Cost saving opportunities from more effective moisture measurement: John Siekmeier, Minnesota Department of Transportation
- Spatial and seasonal moisture variation: Soheil Nazarian, University of Texas at El Paso
