Identifying right-sizing opportunities in the transportation sector can lead to social and economic value by repurposing, reusing, or fundamentally resizing existing transportation system assets. TRB hosted a webinar on Wednesday, March 11 that explored how to right-size transportation investments. Right-sizing involves asset management and system planning, as well as design and project development functions. Presenters diagnosed how an agency’s asset portfolio may no longer be expected to generate economic returns to justify anticipated improvement or preservation costs, and develop and assess options to right-size. They also described how to implement right-sizing solutions in collaboration with allied agencies and other jurisdictions.
This webinar draws on research from the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Research Report 917: Right-Sizing Transportation Investments: A Guidebook for Planning and Programming.
The slides and a recording of the webinar are available.
