Risk-based asset management is essential to long-term management of transportation infrastructure, including preparation for and recovery after emergency events. TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, February 27, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM Eastern that explored how state departments of transportation can conduct statewide evaluations of roads, highways, and bridges that have been damaged due to emergency events, and use those results to improve asset management efforts. Presenters explained how to identify locations where highway assets have been repeatedly damaged and discuss considerations for alternative strategies that could mitigate the risk of recurring damage.
This webinar draws on research from the NCHRP Synthesis Project 20-05/50-15: Asset Management Approaches to Identifying and Evaluating Assets Damaged Due to Emergency Events. The report has not yet been published.

- Determine whether or not repair and reconstruction alternatives for assets can be used and identify what alternative(s) may be used
