Air quality transportation professionals were invited to a TRB webinar on Monday, September 30, 2019, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM ET. The webinar provided an overview of the research done through the transportation pooled fund (TPF) to understand near-road air quality data, improve near-road air quality evaluations, implement effective mitigation, and more effectively respond to stakeholder information requests. Near-road air quality has been recognized for many years as an important environmental concern. In 2014, the Environmental Protection Agency mandated near-road air quality monitoring and in response, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and seven state departments of transportation created TPF to assess near-road air quality. This webinar addressed the four areas used to assess near-road air quality: emissions, measured concentrations, modeled concentrations, and considerations for screening proposed transportation projects. Presenters also discussed how attendees can understand near-road air quality issues and evaluate them on their own.
This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Transportation and Air Quality.
