Recorded Safety Webinars
Webinars are listed below in reverse chronological order. SHRP 2
webinars are available for free. Recorded TRB webinars are available for
$89. There is no fee for employees of TRB sponsors.
As part of the SHRP2 Tuesdays Webinar Series, TRB conducted a webinar on
April 8, 2014, from 2:00pm to 3:30pm ET that explored the Roadway Information Database (RID) component of the SHRP 2 Naturalistic Driving Study (NDS).
View recorded webinar.
The RID was populated with roadway and other contextual information from the six field study sites in the SHRP 2 Naturalistic Driving Study (NDS).
The NDS gathered real-time, in-vehicle data from 3,147 participants in
6 sites across the United States who made 5.4 million trips covering
almost 50 million miles. The RID
includes new roadway data collected and quality assured by SHRP 2. It
also contains existing data - such as roadway inventories, crash
histories, traffic, weather, work zones, 511 information, and safety
enforcement laws - acquired from government, public, and private
sources.
This geographic information system (GIS) database, which will be linked
to the NDS database, will make it possible to relate driver behavior to
characteristics of the roadway. Learning more about this relationship
is critical to understanding how to diminish crash risk in the roadway
design process.

As part of the SHRP2 Tuesdays Webinar Series, TRB conducted a webinar
on March 11, 2014, from 2:00pm to 3:30pm ET that explored the SHRP 2 Naturalistic Driving Study (NDS).
This webinar provides an overview of the SHRP 2 Naturalistic Driving Study (NDS),
which gathered real-time, in-vehicle data from 3,147 participants in 6
sites across the United States who made 5.4 million trips covering
almost 50 million miles. Researchers also introduced the data access
website.

Webinar Slides and FAQ for Pre-bid Webinar for SHRP 2 Project S08: Analysis of the SHRP 2 Naturalistic Driving Study Data
Posted December 22, 2010
SHRP 2 held a web briefing or “webinar” on December 13, 2010, that
served as a forum where researchers learned more about this project in
advance of bidding on it. SHRP 2 Safety research is conducting a large
naturalistic driving study (NDS) of the behavior of volunteer drivers in
their personal vehicles. The objective of project S08 is to conduct
analyses of the SHRP 2 NDS data to obtain new information and insights
on critical safety issues. PDFs of the webinar slides and a FAQ are available.
Recorded SHRP 2 Webinar: SHRP 2 Naturalistic Driving Study--Assessing the Needs of Roadway Information Database Users
Posted October 1, 2010
SHRP 2’s Safety focus area will conduct a naturalistic driving study
(NDS) and develop a complementary roadway information database that will
link to the naturalistic driving database. This roadway information
database will be developed in Project S04A. An early task of the project
is to determine the types of data and analysis that database users will
require. SHRP 2 conducted a web briefing or “webinar” on September 30,
2010, that helped the project team make their determination. The webinar
• Described how roadway data elements that may be of interest to
researchers using the NDS data were identified (presented by S04A team)
• Described cost and other limitations that will constrain data collection (presented by S04A team)
• Described the S04A team’s thinking on how data may be prioritized for mobile mapping (presented by S04A team)
• Discussed user needs for the roadway data (discussion led by S04A team with input from attendees)
• Asked attendees for input on their preference on top data elements (an interactive vote)
• Discussed attendees’ preference
A recording of the webinar is available in Windows Media Player format, and slides are available as a PDF.
