Sandra L. Draggoo, 2006 Sharon D. Banks Award Recipient
Sandra L. Draggoo, Executive Director of the Capital Area Transit Authority (CATA)—the public transportation system in Lansing, MI—is the recipient of the Transportation Research Board's 2006 Sharon D. Banks Award for Innovative Leadership in Transportation. Cited for “her unique blend of strength and compassion,” Draggoo has worked tirelessly throughout her 30-year career to build and maintain strong relationships with CATA’s customers, employees, and community. She has created an array of innovative services and facilities that put people first, and a management style that is inclusive, caring, and highly effective.
The award was at the TRB 85th Annual Meeting, honors the memory of Sharon D. Banks, who was General Manager of AC Transit, Oakland, CA, from 1991 to 1999. Banks chaired the TRB Executive Committee in 1998. She died in 1999. The award recognizes individuals whose accomplishments exemplify Sharon Banks' caring nature and depth of character by making a significant difference in the lives of those who use, deliver, or support transportation services.
