The Gulf Research Program Provides $2 Million to Help Scientists Recover from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Gulf Research Program is making $2 million available through
fast-track grants to help with the repair, replacement, or recovery of equipment, data, or other research materials damaged or lost as a result of the Gulf Coast’s Hurricane Harvey and/or Hurricane Irma. Scientists are invited to apply for grants of up to $50,000 to help with repair, replacement, or recovery of equipment, data, or other damaged or lost research materials. Applications for the first cycle are due January 3, 2018, and applications for the second cycle are due February 28, 2018.
Established as part of settlements in the criminal cases with the companies involved in the 2010
Deepwater Horizon disaster, the Gulf Research Program (GRP) funds grants, fellowships, and other activities to enhance offshore energy system safety, human health, and environmental resources in the Gulf of Mexico region and other U.S. outer continental shelf regions that support offshore energy production.
