Advancing Implementation of Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil-Integrated Bridge Systems (GRS-IBS)
The Institute for Transportation at Iowa State University has released a report that synthesizes recent technical performances and practical lessons from agency experiences in contracting and constructing geosynthetic reinforced soil-integrated bridge systems (GRS-IBS). The U.S. Federal Highway Administration has developed and promoted GRS-IBS technology to deliver accelerated bridge construction economically, primarily for relatively small bridges. However, various agencies may not have implemented GRS-IBS because of a lack of familiarity with the technology and its potential implementation benefits.
