TRB’s Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, No. 1981 contains 23 papers on the subject of transportation planning and analysis. Topics discussed include network expansion decision making, training needs of metropolitan planning organization participants, practical method for developing trip tables from travel demand modeling inputs, tour-based model for analysis of New Starts projects, advanced activity-based models, modeling time-of-day choice, and a summary of recommendations from the Travel Model Improvement Program's Peer Review Program. This issue of the TRR also explores Oregon's transportation planning rule, multimodal statewide transportation planning, developing a statewide travel demand model, consensus building in transportation planning, geography of public participation, using community surveys and focus groups to inform context-sensitive design, public involvement and Florida's metropolitan planning organizations' perspectives, public involvement conflict management system, and direct demand forecasting model for small urban communities. In addition, papers examine forecasting traffic impacts without a travel demand model; financial benefits of early right-of-way acquisition; selection and scheduling of interdependent transportation projects; access management plan for Des Moines, Iowa, metropolitan area; U.S. national park roads and parkways documentation;, national park entrance stations; and lifestyles, residential location decisions, and pedestrian and transit activity.
Individual TRRs, which are published on an irregular basis throughout the year, consist of collections of peer-reviewed papers on specific transportation subject areas and modes. TRB's TRR Online service allows all visitors to identify papers of interest and review abstracts of those papers. Access to the full papers is available to service subscribers and employees of TRB sponsors. Papers may also be purchased on an individual basis.
Printed copies of TRR Journals may also be purchased on an annual subscription basis. Each year, TRB publishes approximately 45 volumes of the TRR Journal, containing more than 800 papers grouped by subject.
