TRB conducted a webinar on Thursday, April 6, 2017, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM ET about training and career development strategies that may help build and sustain a highly effective maintenance and operations workforce. This is the second in a series of webinars on surface transportation workforce. The first
webinar was conducted in August 2016.
The surface transportation maintenance and operations workforce is facing major changes as older employees retire in large numbers and younger employees replace them, thus requiring new approaches to ensure a proficient and productive workforce. Additionally, the job duties and responsibilities are changing due to advanced technologies and more stringent regulations. This webinar addressed training needs for the current workforce and ways to engage new employees. This webinar also discussed relevant NCHRP studies:
This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committees on Maintenance and Operations Management, and Transportation Education and Training. Participants must register in advance of the webinar, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor or non-TRB Sustaining Affiliate employees. A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) was provided to attendees who registered and attended the webinar as an individual. Contact Reggie Gillum at
RGillum@nas.edu for instructions on receiving a copy of the recorded webinar.

slides are available.
