Impacts on Practice: Moving Customers, Cost-Savings and Energy Reduction in the Right Direction
TRB's Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) latest Impacts on Practice explores how Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT) used
ACRP Report 117: Airport Escalators and Moving Walkways—Cost-Savings and Energy Reduction Technologies to assist with the decision to install energy-saving variable demand/variable speed motors on the moving walkways and escalators in the airport. MHT also used ACRP Report 117 as a reference when deciding to install light emitting diode (LED) lighting and motion detection on moving walkways to reduce energy use. As a small hub airport, MHT uses reports and tools produced by ACRP to make customized decisions on operations and maintenance issues.
