TRB conducted a webinar on May 2, 2012 that explored the results of TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP)
Synthesis Report 431: Practices to Manage Traffic Sign Retroreflectivity. The report illustrates efforts that agencies are taking to meet the requirements of the revised Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), which establishes maintenance criteria for traffic sign retroreflectivity. On December 21, 2007, the U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) revised the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices to establish maintenance criteria for traffic sign retroreflectivity. The revised manual gives agencies until January 2012 to establish and implement a sign assessment or management method to maintain minimum levels of sign retroreflectivity.
Agencies are currently seeking practices to help accelerate the implementation of a sign retroreflectivity maintenance policy. This webinar will explore TRB’s NCHRP Synthesis Report 431: Practices to Manage Traffic Signal Reflectivity. Webinar presentations will highlight practices that agencies are using around the country. Presenters will also share agency experiences and accomplishments with implementing sign retroreflectivity management programs.
Webinar learning objectives:
- Participants will learn how to apply minimum sign retroreflectivity standards as described in the MUTCD;
- Directors and managers of traffic and maintenance operations will be able to understand the differences in the MUTCD methods to manage sign retroreflectivity;
